Pendrive that no one will STEAL!

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Some of you readers are hesitant to use USB drives for sensitive data. And rightfully so. Small enough to be easily misplaced and a little too likely to end up in the wrong hands, USB drives which aren’t securely protected through passwords or other encryption just aren’t for the paranoid.

We’d feel a lot more safe knowing that no one in their right mind would even think about stealing our USB drive. The Hacked! drive, designed by Windell Oskay is one piece of storage which no sane person would take a second glance at. other than out of sheer curiosity.

Designed to resemble a USB cable which has been slashed beyond repair, including dangling wires and tattered edges, Hacked! is a actually a 2 GB USB drive. Despite looking like a piece of junk that should be laying in a landfill somewhere, preferably hundreds of miles away from sympathetic geeky eyes, Hacked! might be the most efficient method of data security available.

Think about it. Who’s going to steal a gadget which looks like nothing more than a slashed cable? Other than the most hardcore of kleptomaniacs, the Hacked! gadget should remain safe from dirty fingers. Feel free to include any sort of sensitive info you desire.

Do You Know how u can Charge your mobile without plugging it to thw wall??

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

For all of you who have more than one cellphones with them or in their family, this gadget might be quite tempting. Here is a WildCharger that will charge the mobiles of your whole family overnight at one place only.the most important thing about this gadget is that it charges up your electronic items with the same speed and is perfectly safe to use.

The WildCharger™ pad is flat and thin with a conductive surface. Once a cell phone or other electronic device that is enabled with WildCharge technology is placed on the pad – anywhere on the pad and at any orientation – it will instantaneously receive power from the pad.Enabling a portable electronic device with WildCharge technology is also simple. A WildCharge adapter attaches to – or outright replaces – the device’s back cover. This adapter has tiny external “bumps” (contact-points) that come in physical contact with the pad.
Once a compatible electronic device is placed on the WildCharger pad, power is transferred from the pad’s surface through the contact-points to the WildCharge adapter and into the device. The geometries of the charging surface and the contact-points guaranty that regardless of where the device is placed on the pad’s surface, a closed electrical circuit is formed between the surface and the device. Such direct contact allows for a very efficient and safe power transfer without generating harmful radiation or magnetic fields.
This device has already been used to charge up the mobiles like MotoRazr.

Device that hits you while playing - Mindwire V5!!

How would you like a device that actually induces localized electric shocks each time you're punched or shot in a game?Sure, your games are thrilling and all, but they don't exactly cause actual pain, do they?Yes, for all of you out there who are looking for some sadistic thrill while playing video games Mindwire Limited brings you a new gadget called Mindwire V5 which will get you shocked in real life when you get fragged in Unreal, sacked in Madden, or robbed in GTA !!
The device works by splitting your controller input to the "brain" of the V5 and your console, then sends electric jolts via electrode pads on your skin. Right now the company has a model tested and working with the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PCs, though they appear to be making preparations for current gen consoles in the next iteration of the device. It has a ‘dumb dumb’ mode for existing games (reacts to the force-feedback signal) and offers other ’special’ features for specially designed games.
The idea's not innately bad, but it's probably premature, and pretty clunky-looking to boot. I hate having to wrap the Wii remote's strap around my wrist already, and now you want me to take the time to hook up nearly a dozen electrodes to my arms, legs, and chest?

Charge your gadgets with body movement !

Monday, March 10, 2008

This Kinetic enegy concept gadget allows you to power your other gadgets such as your iPod or cell phone through your own effort and exertion.

The Kinetic Energy is the brainchild of Wilma van Boxtel of Australia. The way it works is the more your legs are in motion, the more electricity you generate, and the more “juice” your gadgets get. The devise can be worn on the wrist or as an ankle bracelet and as you can see, this Kinetic Energy thing is very stylish and comes in a variety of colors to match any outfit. This is a wonderful idea!

Meant to be worn on your ankle, it generates electricity courtesy of all the movement you make, channeling those into a gadget of your choice at any given time. I guess this would work best with folk who love shaking their legs without realizing it, while having an iPod or cell phone hooked up to the Kinetic Energy device itself. Just make sure you detach whatever gadget is connected to it before getting up from your desk as you wouldn't want that shiny new iPod touch to end up crashing on the floor.

Cyber Goggles

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

Smart goggles --

Researchers at the University of Tokyo have developed a smart video goggle system that records everything the wearer looks at, recognizes and assigns names to objects that appear in the video, and creates an easily searchable database of the recorded footage. Designed to function as a high-tech memory aid, these “Cyber Goggles” promise to make the act of losing your keys a thing of the past.

Cyber Goggles are equipped with a compact camera that feeds video to a computer worn on the user’s back. The computer records the footage and relies on ultrahigh-speed image recognition processing software to analyze, name and file the objects that appear in the video. Later, when the user types in a keyword to search for a particular item, the corresponding video plays on a tiny LCD screen attached to the right-side lens, helping the user remember the location of the item in question.

In a demonstration at the University of Tokyo last week, 60 everyday items — including a potted begonia, CD, hammer and cellphone — were programmed into the Cyber Goggle memory. As the demonstrator walked around the room viewing and recording the various objects, the names of the items appeared on the goggle screen. The demonstrator was then able to do a search for the various items and retrieve the corresponding video.

In addition to functioning as a memory aid for the elderly, Cyber Goggles have a number of other potential uses, says professor Harada. For example, the image recognition processing technology can be used to sift through enormous amounts of video in search of specific images. It might also help in the development of robots with human-like abilities, he says.

DIY Projector

Saturday, March 1, 2008

Here’s an excellent home DIY project; a widescreen projector for the ultimate home theatre system – on a budget.

The project plans are available free from Lumenlab.com.

The most expensive component of the DIY XGA projector is the LCD panel, which can be scavenged from a 15” LCD display. A metal halide lamp is used, costing around $50, which is a fifth of what you would pay for a commercial projector but probably uses a lot more power too.

The Fresnel lens is supplied by Lumenlab.

The most difficult part of the project is the stripping of the 15” LCD display, which isn’t easy because of the fragile edge connectors and flat cables. The modular design of the projector is such that you could start with a second hand SVGA LCD monitor though, and upgrade to a 1024 x 768 (XGA) later once you’ve had a practice run.

Nanoscrap -- a SUPW Work??

You've got to hand it to modder Mark Irwin, who did his fellow tinkerers proud by assembling a bunch of found objects into a very handy audio / video dock for the squat new ipod nano. The project is brilliant in its simplicity: Irwin just carved a nano-sized slot in an old slide magnifier, embedded some discarded speakers, and ended up with a super-handy viewing station on the cheap. Check out the video.

Pillete

Pillete, the new concept of Bluetooth headset is so tiny, it’s almost invisible to the untrained eye when you are wearing it. So you don’t have to worry anymore about looking like Robocop when walking down the street with it, but you have to consider the possibility of people starting to think you’ve lost your marbles and you’re talking to yourself.

The downside is the fact that people have different sized ears and the device might be to small and slip out or to big and not fit. People who often use earphones will tell you I’m right. But once they’ll figure out a way to make the Pillete adjustable, this design will be the future of all headsets.

Automatic Licence Plate Recognition System (ALPR)

Thursday, February 21, 2008

ALPR It’s real! The all knowing patrolling police car is no longer just a presence in policemen’s dreams. Nowadays, with all this technology, cops decided to make life a lot safer. Car thieves, uninsured fellows beware, this new gadget records, reads your car’s licence plate cross-referencing each and every one against a database of plates associated with stolen and uninsured vehicles, as well as unlicensed drivers.

This gadget’s creators hope to expand the system and to use it for national security sites, airports, counter-terrorism and organized crime. Plates could be scanned as you pass through an airport terminal or when entering a garage. Just three cameras mounted outside of the police squad car (one on the front left directed at oncoming traffic, one on the front right directed at the number two lane or cars park, and a third mounted on the side for use in parking lots).

Being a policeman seems easier and patrolling may become as easy as one-two-three. When cruising down a parking lot the system will play a recognizable signal if any plates are matching. The ALPR can handle up to 3000 plates an hour (that’s one a second ;) ).

Panasonic intros DMR-BR500, DMR-XW320 and DMR-XW120 HDD / Blu-ray recorders

Panasonic's got a set of all new recorders for us to drool over, and while they each include analog / digital tuners, only the crown jewel (that'd be the DMR-BR500) includes a 4x Blu-ray writer. Said unit also boasts a 250GB hard drive, UniPhier chip and MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 encoders. As for the 500GB DMR-XW320 and 250GB DMR-XW120, each of these stick with HDD recording, but look to feature all the other aforementioned niceties including support for Dolby True HD, DTS-HD and HDMI 1.3. No official word on price at the moment, but expect to pay a pretty penny when these land late next month.

New Palm Centro from AT&T

                                          .

Palm Inc. today announced its Palm Centro smart phone for use over AT&T networks and with some significant differences from the version announced with Sprint Nextel Corp. last September.

The AT&T version, for $99 after rebate and a two-year contract, features XM Radio Mobile, a push-to-talk capability and MusicID for identifying songs,a Palm spokeswoman said. It operates over AT&T's EDGE network

The Palm Centro from AT&TThe Centro has preserved both a touch screen and a QWERTY keyboard. The touch screen, at 320 by 320 pixel resolution and 2.2 inches diagonally, takes up about half of the upper part of the device. In all, the Centro is 4.22 by 2.11 by .73 inches and weighs only 4.4 ounces, making it one of the smallest and lightest Palm products released. It is available in white today from AT&T and black next month.

The product appeals primarily to young women seeking a lower cost device, Palm said.

Centro runs the Palm operating system and provides e-mail, chat and Web browsing. The push-to-talk feature allows discussions with as many as 29 people.

It is the first Palm OS smart phone with built-in XM Radio Mobile, which enables access to 25 commercial-free XM radio channels in a variety of genres. The Centro also has a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth and a removable battery that supports up to four hours of talk time. TeleNav GPS Navigator is preinstalled.

It holds 64MB of storage, but a microSD card can be used to expand capacity.

Bluetooth car kit...

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Now you can take advantage of Bluetooth wireless - and hands free - operation of your cell phone without having to wear a headset. If you know how to plug into your cigarette lighter, you can have Bluetooth wireless in your car.
There is a very, very powerful reason for going hands-free when doing calls in your car: it is rapidly becoming illegal in many states to hold a cell phone and drive at the same time.
The BlueLife Bluetooth Car Kit (DIYBRH) includes a receiver and 3.5mm connector. The receiver has a built-in microphone that simply plugs into any vehicle's 12-volt charger. It then connects to a vehicle's auxiliary jack allowing music or hands-free cellular calls to play through a vehicle's speakers. It will work with any radio that has an auxiliary input jack, but if you don't have that, the company offers a direct connect add-on auxiliary accessory, the DCAXUV, that will allow anyone to use the new Bluetooth car kit.
As a call comes through to a Bluetooth enabled cell phone, a user can either manually answer the call using the push-to-talk button included on the microphone, or a call can be automatically answered. Once the call is answered, all music mutes, and users will hear the caller through their car speakers. When the call is complete, the call is disconnected, and the music will automatically turn back on.

Triple your Wi-Fi's strength with Wi-Fire

hField Technologies’ Wi-Fire is a compact high-performance USB Wi-Fi Adapter for Mac and PC that extends the Wi-Fi range upwards of 1,000 feet. Being a college student, I am blessed with a blanketed campus, offering a strong Wi-Fi signal wherever I go, right? …. Well, wrong. Dreaded dead spots exist and, to my dismay, my dorm room seems to be the epicenter of a dead spot, a barren wasteland of former Wi-Fi signal.

My solutions included hardwiring—too easy. Setting up a router? Forbidden. And as this epic conundrum reached a head, an epiphany hit me like a ton of bricks (as they tend to do). However, this epiphany came in the form of a small device called the Wi-Fire from a startup company that I had never heard of. The device triples the power of the internal receptor, making it virtually impossible not to get a signal, regardless of where you are.

On my current winter break, my internet cut out on me and, although I am not condoning it, I continued surfing without a problem off of an unsecured network down the street. The device uses a directional antenna with an arrow to ensure a strong signal. According to hField’s site, “the Wi-Fire provides interoperability with any 802.11 b/g access point and multiplies the effectiveness of wireless networks allowing users to connect to a WiFi network from up to 1,000 feet, more than three times the range of Airport cards and other 802.11 adapters, at significantly higher speeds, and even in locations where no wireless signal could be detected previously.”

If you’re looking to improve your internet connectivity and thereby improve your efficiency in any setting whether it’s the airport, park or even dorm room, look no further than this valuable gizmo from hField Technologies, Inc.

The device is 3 x 4 x 3/8 inches in size. It folds up for transportation and connects to the Mac and PC using USB.

Eye-Fi Card

Eye-Fi Inc. today unveiled the Eye-Fi Card – the world’s first wireless SD memory card for digital cameras. It uses home Wi-Fi networks to create a convenient way for users to send photographs directly from digicams to computers and online photo and social networking sites.

All you need to do is simply turn on your digital camera and your pictures are wirelessly uploaded. The Eye-Fi Card works with existing and new SD-compatible digital cameras, and stores photos just like a conventional SD memory card.

During the simple setup process, users can select from among 17 popular online photo-sharing, printing, social networking, or blogging sites to publish and share their photographs, and select where on their PC or Mac they want to archive their images.

Once the setup is complete, users can focus on taking pictures and sharing memories – and not on the process of uploading photos from the camera. Eye-Fi’s free upload service allows users to transfer an unlimited number of photos. It handles full-resolution JPEG pictures and intelligently resizes images if required by the selected destination.
