Remove any item permanently from a webpage

| Sunday, September 21, 2008 |

Some time back I came across this addon and thought what a great addon to remove any unwanted item on a webpage permanently. But when I came across this addon , I had upgraded to Firefox 3 and this addon was incompatible with with the new version. Though I found a solution to make addons compatible with the older versions. Mozilla has also come out with a latest version of this addon called Remove It Permanently(RIP) addon which is well supported by Firefox 3.

Rip (Remove it Permanently) provides the ability to point at and remove permanently any item you can select. It provide a flexible and easily configurable solution to removing unwanted content from a web page.Elements can be pretty much anything from headers, images, advertisement, forms to flash content.

Two new right-click entries appear after installing the add-on for Firefox,. The first entry, Remove This Permanently, removes the selected element from the current page. If you remove the Google logo from a search it will still appear on a different search. This method is pretty good for quickly removing elements on a website that you visit regularly and that does not have changing addresses.

The second entry Rip Advanced offers advanced features that make it possible to remove elements from a single page, all similar pages, the website and the full domain. That’s not all however. You can also remove all similar items in one go, remove the parent element, all parent elements, all frames and Google Adsense.

If you've ever looked at a site and wished you could get rid of some unsightly image or an element that throws off the flow of a site, just right-click it with RIP and remove it permanently. You can select to remove it from that page only, all similar pages, from the web site, or from the entire domain—in addition to a few other options.

Play videos in firefox sidebar

| Wednesday, August 20, 2008 |

Another Firefox Extension!! huh! Firefox does know how to make the job of its users easier and easier. This one is supposed to be the best extensions by firefox until now.
It basically allows you to play videos from your favorite video sites such as YouTube, DailyMotion, MetaCafe, MySpace right from within your Firefox sidebar.
In short, YouPlayer is a video player with playlist which works on Firefox sidebar while you are surfing the Internet on the right.
Users can make a playlist of videos and watch them while surfing the web. The reason I love this extension is because it kills the limitation of staying on a browser window to watch a video and allows you to enjoy it virtually anywhere you go.

How To Use YouPlayer

  1. Firstly, install YouPlayer Firefox add-on. Upon installation, click on “YP” on the bottom right side in your Firefox browser. YouPlayer-2
  2. To start to watch an online video, you can click on “Search” button in YouPlayer to search a video in YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe, DailyMotion or MySpace. YouPlayer-3
  3. You may drag and drop a link or local files from hard drive into a playlist window. When you double-click of it, it will be loaded in the video window. YouPlayer-4
  4. You can save the playlist and make it work as a bookmarker so you can always continue to watch the unfinished video in your playlist.

Greasemonkey script for IE,Opera and Safari users

I think most of you must be knowing about Greasemonkey.Well even if you don't know nothing to worry about.
Greasemonkey is one of the most popular Firefox extensions, allowing users to easily customize any web page, remove annoyances and enhance user experience in general, the functionality Greasemonkey provides is only limited to Firefox though.
But now this facility can also be experienced by the Internet Explorer, Opera and Safari Users also by using the method given below:

Running Greasemonkey Scripts in Internet Explorer

For Internet explorer users there are quite a few alternatives for Greasemonkey which will allow you to run user scripts.

Trixie

Trixie is probably the best Greasemonkey alternative for Internet Explorer users. You can run any Greasemonkey scripts on IE using Trixie.

Download Trixie | Trixie Homepage

IE7Pro

IE7Pro is a popular add-in for Internet Explorer which enhances the overall experience while using Internet explorer. They also have a feature where you can install and run user scripts, just like you do with Greasemonkey. You can download user scripts for IE7Pro from IEScripts.org.

Download IE7Pro | IE7Pro Homepage

Greasemonkey for IE

Previously covered Greasemonkey For IE does the job pretty well running user scripts but does not have many user scripts to boast of yet.

Download Greasemonkey for IE | Greasemonkey for IE Homepage

Run Greasemonkey Scripts in Opera

Opera has inbuilt support for user scripts which allows you to run custom JavaScript. You can also use Greasemonkey scripts in Opera. The Opera support section has a tutorial on how you can run Greasemonkey scripts in Opera for developers and advanced users.

For users who want to run Greasemonkey scripts in Opera you need to rename the original script to end with ".user.js" and add the script to be run by Opera. Contridentuallity has a great tutorial on running Greasemonkey scripts in Opera.

Run Greasemonkey Scripts in Safari

For all those Mac users browsing on Safari, there is a nice alterative called Greasekit a user scripting engine for Webkit applications. Greasekit allows Safari users to download and run user scripts.

Simple Help has a in-depth tutorial on how you can install and run Greasemonkey scripts in Safari.

How To Login to Websites Instantly in Firefox

| Wednesday, July 23, 2008 |

Firefox has an amazing password manager which stores all your login credentials and allows you to easily login to websites but the problem is that you still need to type the username everytime.

Secure Login is a Firefox add-on that will allow you to login to websites instantly just with one-click.

secureloginfirefox

It is very similar to the Wand Login feature in Opera. In case you have multiple login credentials for a single website, it will let you choose the username through which you want to login.

Moreover you can choose a keyboard shortcut (in case you are too lazy to press the key button).

Snap Link- addon

| Saturday, March 15, 2008 |

This post is for all my readers who have to browse through many links every day. When people search something on google they want to check out every result atleast on first page.Instead of clicking on each link individually you can just select all the links at the same time and open them in different tabs in just one click by using this Mozilla Firefox addon called Snap Link.

Snap Links allows users to easily open multiple links in new tabs by drawing a box around them. Links can also be opened in new windows, new tabs on a new window, copied to clipboard, bookmarked or downloaded.

The main goal of the extension is to allow easy and fast opening of multiple results presented by search engines (but it should work on any site).
Snap Links is similar to other extensions that open multiple links yet it works in a different way from most of them. The most important differences are:
- The user selects the links by drawing a rectangle (instead of highlighting the text or moving the
mouse precisely over the links)
- Only the main links are selected by default
- Requires only one click
- There is visual aid to show which links are currently selected
- The extension attempts to be simple, fast and intuitive

You can set the orientation to left or right, set the minimum, default and maximum width and the behavior on browser startup. Furthermore AiOS provides enhancements for many built-in features.

Speed Up Firefox :: Download Preloader

| Sunday, March 9, 2008 |

One thing that has always left me puzzled is why Firefox takes so long to startup. Both Opera and Internet Explorer take just seconds to get up and running, but on all four of my computers Firefox takes between 10 and 20 seconds to start (even with no extensions installed).

If you find yourself in a similar situation then what you might need is the open source Firefox Preloader. It can be set to startup when you turn your computer on, and with it Firefox will always be at your beck and call. If there are multiple versions of Firefox installed on your computer you can decide which one you would like it to work with.

From the little I was able to find out, Preloader pre-loads various parts of your Firefox Browser into the memory (presumably the most important parts) so that when you want it to start, it is able to open much faster than normal. In fact when I clicked on the Fox logo to start the browser, it shot open like a politician being caught in a brothel with his pants down. The tabs fired open one by one as if they had drank five cups of coffee each. Firefox is now so fast it’s unnerving me.

It also minimizes Firefox to the system tray by hitting either the minimize or close buttons. Remember, it works on Microsoft Windows only.

If you feel the need, you can “unload” what Preloader has loaded into memory and tell it to “reload” Firefox (see the menu to the left). You can access this menu by a small Firefox icon which appears in your system tray. You can also tell Preloader to start up when Windows starts and you can also tell it where to find Firefox in your computer by specifying the path in your PC.

You’re probably wondering how much CPU this program uses up. Well I can tell you - virtually nothing. In fact it barely registers at all. It rarely goes above 4000k and 0% CPU.
